West Feliciana Parish Library Grand Opening, October 3, 2014
When the term “Grand Opening” was coined, it could not be more descriptive than what happened at the West Feliciana Parish Library on October 3, 2014. For the first time in 200 years, the parish had its own facility built as and for library services. Almost 250 people were on hand for the opening ceremonies that were dedicated to Mrs. Clara Ruth Saint, longtime Library Board President. Special guests were Rebecca Hamilton, State Librarian, and John Georges, Publisher, along with Dan Shea, General Manager and COO of The Advocate. Mr. Shea announced that The Advocate will be digitizing older issues of The Democrat and will present access to our library. Additionally, once that project has been completed, the library will become the repository of the original bound volumes.
Special thanks to the Junior ROTC of West Feliciana Parish High School under the sponsorship of Lt. Commander David McMillan, USN (ret.). Appreciation is also expressed to Warden Burl Cain for permitting the Louisiana State Penitentiary Sign Language Team to attend and sign the National Anthem.
