How much does it cost to have a Library Card?

There is no cost to get a library card! Library resources and services are provided through a dedicated property tax that was voted on in 2012 and will be voted on to be renewed in 2031. 

Who can get a library card?

Anyone, regardless of age, who lives, owns property, or works in West Feliciana Parish (WFP) may apply to borrow materials from the West Feliciana Parish Library (WFPL) free of charge.

What are the different types of Library Cards?

Each card has different requirements, required ID, restrictions, benefits, and expiration dates. See Appendix A. Types of Library Accounts, Eligibility, Requirements, and Expirations, and Appendix B. Types of Library Cards, Blocks, Reserves and Total Item Limits, for complete information to decide which account is right for you or your child.

  • Adult Card - Ages 18+​

  • Temporary Card (Ages 18+ who are non‐resident visitors in West Feliciana Parish for a minimum of 3 months.)

  • eLibrary Card - Ages 18+

  • Minor Account

    • ​Children's Card - Ages 0-7

    • Juvenile Card - Ages 8-10

    • Teen Card - Ages 11-14 (Also called a "Tween" Card

    • Young Adult Card - Ages 15-17

    • Restricted Children's Card - Ages 0-7

    • Restricted Juvenile Card - Ages 8-10

    • Restricted Teen Card - Ages 11-14 (Also called a "Tween" Card)

    • Restricted Young Adult Card - Ages 15-17

  • Outreach Card - 18+ (Daycares, Nursing Homes, Assisted Living Facilities, etc.)

 

How do I get a Library Card?

Come to the library with the proper identification and address verification and fill out an application for a library card (or print one and fill it out ahead of your visit).

The following are acceptable forms of photo identification:

  • Valid (not expired) ID or Driver's License, Driver's Permit or Official LA Wallet Digital Driver’s License.

  • Current passport, military ID with name, or government-issued picture ID.

 

The following are acceptable verifications of current address or WFP property ownership:

  • First-class business mail postmarked within the last 30 days.

  • Lease agreement signed by current landlord.

  • Current insurance card if it includes current address.

  • Utility bill postmarked within the last 30 days.

  • Property tax receipt.

 

The following are acceptable verifications for non‐residents who are working in West Feliciana Parish and are used in addition to picture ID and proof of address:

  • Current pay stub.

 

What if I lose my Library Card?

 

  • Cardholders are responsible for notifying the library if their card is lost or stolen.

  • Cards reported lost or stolen are deactivated immediately.

  • Cardholders are responsible for any materials borrowed until it is reported lost or stolen.

  • A police report may be required before the cardholder’s account will be cleared.

  • Lost or stolen cards are not reactivated.

  • Lost or stolen cards presented for use are destroyed.

  • A new library card must be issued.

  • The cost for a lost card is $1.00.

  • There is no cost for a stolen card.

How do I get an eLibrary Card?

Are you only interested in eBooks and eAudiobooks? If so, an eLibrary Card may be perfect for you. Getting an eLibrary Card is simple! Apply online for an eLibrary Card

You can upgrade to a full Library Card at any time by coming by the library in person with the proper identification (see How do I get a Library Card)

How do I renew my Library Card or an eLibrary Card?

Most Library Cards and eLibrary Cards must be renewed every three years. Some cards must be renewed yearly. You can renew your account in a few different ways:

  • On the phone by calling the library at (225)-635-3364. We'll ask you to provide the following information to verify it's really you:

    • Library Card or eCard number

    • Full name

    • Mailing address

    • Phone number and/or email address

    • Birthdate

  • In-person at the library. You will be asked to provide your Library Card or identification with your name and current address.

Note: You will not be able to renew an item if someone else has a reserve on it, if your card is expired, or if you have a balance on your account.
